- A Brief about yourself and how you describe your own Personality and Persona.
With one foot in the Past stepping into the Future, I am a cocktail of emotion and logic. I believe in being proud of our culture, the ‘History’/’Herstory’ and moving forward into an empathetic world of technology. A world not based on ‘Haves’ and ‘Have-nots’. But one, where the government and science aids to improve the health and condition of underprivileged and abused women and children.
- Your Achievements that makes you feel high.
I was married while still studying and joined my husband to improve his career opportunities, unable to work on an H1-B Visa and had my first child. I have devoted my full time looking after my son, because his childhood will never come back. Motherhood is most important to me. More important than financial success for me is to be a pillar of support and a fountain of joy for those who need me. However, I have managed to work on, WRITE AND ILLUSTRATE MY OWN BOOK of verse on the first 33 DEITIES according to the Rigveda for teenagers. The reason for doing this is to respect nature through deities and to promote pluralism, not division. To see godliness in different aspects of people. My next book is on the 10 wisdom goddesses and aspects of Devi. I have an upcoming series of 7 such books based on ancient texts. I also create FEMINIST ART ON INSTAGRAM celebrating the 7 different feminine archetypes and the joy of being every kind of woman. Please follow me on instagram @mimamsa28.
- Define the true beauty.
For me, True beauty is that which needs no approval. Does not need to compete. Like a Lotus blooms in dirty water and makes everything around it look beautiful.
- What makes a complete, healthy and happy family for you?
A healthy family is a family where everyone is treated like an equal. Where even the children are allowed to express themselves without fear. Where the mother and father share duties and nourish and discipline the child to become a good citizen and an independent, strong and confident person.
- What is your favorite Idea of Holidaying?
Firstly, anywhere with the people you love and enjoy being with is a home and a holiday. I want to BE A ‘Holiday’. I want that people feel relieved and soothed after being around me. On a side note, I love the poetic expanse of beaches and old historic monuments with stories.
- Why you are participating in Mrs India Earth?
I want to set an example for women who believe there is an expiry date on their beauty and youth because of age and marriage. Some believe they cannot go on without the approval and support of a man and stay in abusive marriages which is not even healthy for the child. I want to create a space and opportunities for such women. Secondly, I want to prove that I can succeed at my own pace without competing with a man. We are different but equal. I want to prove how the length of my skirt does not show my intellect or character.
- What bothers you most about what is happening in the country today?
Two things. Firstly, the beauty of India is that it is a Secular country. I am deeply disturbed by discrimination of any sort based on caste, gender, religion, race. Laws promoting ideas of hatred towards other religions. Love has no religion. Even immigrants who have greatly contributed to the economy and benefitted the country deserve to be a part of it. The public must hold hands and show unity. Secondly, the appalling growth of the population. Focus on family planning, birth control, and a good quality lifestyle with access to basic healthcare, education, and three meals a day.
- The Quote or saying that encourages you?
“ You may write me down in history, with you bitter twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt, But still, like dust, I rise. I rise. I rise.” - Maya Angelou. Meaning, rising in life in spite of opposition, misogyny, hatred, by being brave and strong without dragging other people down.
- What is true “Sportsmanship” for you?
Not focusing on rewards but giving your best performance. Failing gracefully, not taking loss personally as the end of life, but picking up the pieces and rebuilding better with fresh feedback. Getting up to ‘fight’ another round till you win. Never giving up. Always playing fair and being happy for other people.
- If you were selected as a Charity Ambassador what Value addition would you like to make for our Society and how?
I studied Sociology and Design because I wanted to bring about SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH DESIGN AND ART. I have had two unsuccessful attempts to create supportive environments for abused women because time was not right. I’m not giving up on that. My aim is to provide opportunity and skill-based vocational training to abused Dalit women and girls and improving their skills and employability so that they are not exploited by a male-dominated society and can be independent.
