ROAD LESS TRAVELLED

It is a general assumption that it is difficult to continue education and pursue a career after an early marriage especially for girls.  Many Girls take marriage as an end to their aspirations and immerse themselves in their family and worldly duties thinking that this is what they were destined to do.  This is more evident in small cities where culture and traditions are considered to be a lag on their (girls) self development.

I would argue that you could be successful academically and careerwise despite backward traditions, culture and other impediments.  I am a live example of achieving success in all areas after marriage despite conservative family background, rigid culture and customs.   This situation works vice-versa also.  Many men also feel that they could do nothing better or continue studies after marriage.     A peaceful marriage and a zeal to never give up on each other is what is required.

An awareness is required to be spread about not losing hope and continuing with education after marriage.  Generally there is a fear that in-laws would not support their education and career, whereas this could be changed with positive persuasion and self motivation.

The point to be made is that an early marriage is not the end rather with each other’s support it could be a beginning of a successful life in all aspects of life for both the partners.  Moreover a girl could achieve all this while respecting her culture and traditions and I consider myself as an example to the above.
