Finalist Detail 2018

Dr. Rainha L Jacques

  • Goa
  • A Brief about yourself and how you describe your own Personality and Persona.
  • I am a medical doctor by profession and a fashionista by passion. However, I fancy  medical research and I am always inclined towards the same. I come across as a very pleasant and polite person which might be my Goan traits. I am an ambitious woman who is extremely optimistic about life. Being a meritious student and a doctor, it comes to me naturally to be dedicated , disciplined and determined in all spheres of my life. I am married to Aaron, a neurologist and physician, and am blessed with three bubbly, affectionate and cheeky children and a very loving and supportive mother. I love myself to bits although I am practical yet romantic, kind yet cautious and possess an excellent sense of social responsibility.

I love to cook and to bake. Both are an art and involve a lot of science as well, so this feeds the scientist in me.I love to dance. I can waltz, foxtrot, jive,  and cha-cha-cha. I love listening to music and I also love to travel. I love watching movies on the big screen whenever time permits. I love the child in me and read a lot of books based on humor and sci-fi fiction. The internet is a friend only to keep me abreast with all the latest news from around the world.

  • Your Achievements that makes you feel high.
  • I have always been a meritious student since my school days. I was crowned the queen of our batch at school-leaving in '98.

I was awarded certificate of merit in'98 under the National Scholarship Scheme.

At the 41st Annual All-India UN information test by the Council for UN Information, USO, I secured a distinction.

I was part of the Junior Red Cross Society and awarded a certificate for community service.

The following year in '99 I won a beauty contest in Margao.

In 2001-2002 I was crowned the Goa Dental Queen.

I have a diploma in information technology from Manipal University in 2001

Now, I am a qualified medical doctor and a clinical neurophysiologist. As a physiologist I have gained experience in teaching undergraduate medical and nursing students.

I actively participate in research and can proudly boast of publications in numerous international and national journals like Journal of Diabetes and its Complications, Journal of Clinical Neuroscience,Annals of the Indian Academy of Neurology, to mention a few.

Having run Goa's premier private clinical neurophysiology laboratory “Neurocare”, for over three years alongside  my husband, we have contributed in promoting health awareness and providing the best service to our patients.

I have also been a visiting consultant to many of Goa's top hospitals routinely performing and interpreting EEG and nerve conduction studies.

I take immense pride in this because I was not only available to the patients of Goa but also the neighbouring regions of Karnataka to whom such facilities were remotely distant and unaffordable.

I was also awarded a scholarship by the University of Queensland, Australia in 2015 (subject to my approval) for a research PhD in neurophysiology.

But above all, I cherish the most is our beautiful marriage of 9 years and our three adorable cheeky monsters.

Last but not the least, being a finalist at Mrs. India Earth 2018.

  • Define the true beauty.
  • Charm can be deceptive, youth fades away and a nice body will always change with age. According to me true beauty is the cheerfulness in one's eyes, the transparency of one's character and the meekness of one's soul. All these translate into good thoughts and actions. I may not flash the prettiest smile but I do perceive that everything both living and man-made has a beauty and purpose of its own.

  • What makes a complete, healthy and happy family for you?
  • I have learnt that family is one of the only constant elements in life. I see my family as complete and happy because of our closeness and togetherness. With deep love for each other our circle of strength grows stronger everyday. Everyone is an “individual” and 'special'. We always thank God for our blessings and shortcomings; and never take the other for granted. We put each other first and believe in giving them second chances. We forgive each other and always speak the truth. We respect our elders. We encourage our children, even while disciplining them, and give them lots of hugs and kisses. And say “I Love You” everyday. I believe in giving them 'roots' they can always be proud of.

  • What is your favorite Idea of Holidaying?
  • An ideal vaction is one that is utterly refreshing. It should give us a good experience and enjoyable memories for life. Camping beneath the stars, a cottage experience by the woods, a jungle safari, basking in the sunshine along a sea shore, visiting an amusement park or exploring cities are my personal favourite ideas of vacations. What is important is that we have great adventures together and that these memories become souvenirs for our children.

  • Why you are participating in Mrs. India Earth ?
  • I have always dared to dream big and inspire others in doing so.. Mrs. India Earth gives married women a strong platform to present themselves as they are, for who they are and for what they can be. Hence, I chose to join this dignified pageant. If I can set a good example with my way of being and serving my people then I have already made a highway for many to follow. What better way can I reach the masses and set an example?

  • What bothers you most about what is happening in the country today?
  • In addition to Poverty, ever-increasing population density and pollution, I think there is a severe lack of conceptual thinking amongst us which leads to marginalization and oppression in the name of securing patriotism. Safety of women in India is an international concern at the momemt which I think needs attention through education.

  • The Quote or saying that encourages you?
  • 'Remember yourself as a little girl, she is counting on you to lead her on and to succeed.'  When I was a little girl I had trained myself to find blessings in everything..so everytime I am in doubt or in defeat this thought helps me to pop up back on my toes and to get going. Because I never want to regret at the end of my life not having lived upto my own expectations. We live once... there are no rehearsals.

  • What is true “Sportsmanship” for you?
  • I take immense pride in how far I have come and have faith in how far I can go. To me true sportsmanship is playing a fair game, always by the rules, treating my opponents with utmost respect, being humble in victory and brave in defeat.

  • If you were selected as a Charity Ambassador what Value addition would you like to make for our Society and how?
  • By being a charity ambassador i would like to work towards a cause that is very close to my heart. Being a doctor and having dealt with special children and being a mother to a special child I would love to  promote awareness about disabilities like autism, attention deficit-hyperactivity and the like. Our society turns a blind eye towards this section of its youth who need to be included and loved. Unless we educate and make people aware that they exist, they need support, love and attention this will continue to remain an unexplored chapter in our country. Helping these children to lead independent fruitful lives would contribute to national growth. After all, the progress of a nation may depend on its productive population, but its soul is reflected in the way it treats those who need help.

Enpowering the mothers of these special children is another battle I wish to fight for. As mothers we are normally stressed. But mothers of these have to cope with stress that has a capital “S”. Along with this comes stigma and its cousin 'social isolation'. The proverb 'it takes a village to raise a child' is apt in this situation. Unless we get our communities to understand the woes of these women we fail in women empowerment.

My social responsibility also extends to my environment.. encouraging the use of eco friendly products and the need for recycling to reduce land and water pollution is the need of the hour. And our nation is fighting a losing battle with the same.

Increasing awareness, changing the face of education and therapy, organising employment opportunities for these mothers, supporting eco-clubs and recycling projects, gathering monetary support for the same causes is what I aim for.
